Introduction

 

Ms. Jess Chick graduated with a bachelor’s degree in social work from Hong Kong Baptist University in 1993 and worked as a school social worker for many years. In 2005, she completed a master’s degree in art therapy in the UK and registered as a qualified art therapist (membership number: AS05776) in the Health and Care Professions Council. After returning to Hong Kong, she worked as a full-time art therapist in a mental rehabilitation and intellectual disability service unit for five years.

Since 2011, she has been in private practice and has worked with various social service agencies. The clients include ex-mentally ill and mentally handicapped persons, autism, elderly with dementia, youths in drug rehabilitation institutions, children with special education needs and their parents, schools, etc. The nature of the work includes case counselling, group therapy, workshops, and community exhibitions. From 2015 to 2021, she worked as a part-time lecturer at the School of Continuing and Professional Studies of the Chinese University of Hong Kong, teaching several art therapy courses. In recent years, she has endeavoured to promote art therapy applications in different settings and for different client populations such as children with special needs, mindfulness art therapy, art therapy and spirituality, etc.
