Janis graduates with a Master’s degree in Social Science (Counselling) with Distinction from The University of Hong Kong after earning her first degree in Mass Communications (Honors) at the Texas State University in the United States in 1994. She is now a Certified Marriage and Family Therapist (ID: 61473858) of the Hong Kong Marriage and Family Therapy Association and a Certified Counsellor (2017-323) of the Hong Kong Professional Counselling Association. She also obtains a CFA Institute Investment FoundationsTM certificate.

Specializing in dealing with workplace and family dynamics, Janis spent more than two decades working as a senior executive across multinational corporations such as McDonald’s, Disney, Citi and BNP Paribas Asset Management, and taking regional management responsibility for many years. Currently she is a Thrive Consultant at a US-based organization Guide+Thrive where she coaches professionals across Asia Pacific who have experienced different degrees of mental issues or simply seeking for personal development.

In recent years, she offers psychoeducational training to executives in Asia Pacific and provides part-time teaching on counselling skills and family systems theory at Hong Kong Baptist University. She is an appointed counsellor at Hong Kong Baptist University’s Counselling and Psychological Enrichment (CAPE) Service. In her private practice, she also offers long-term coaching service to educators in a school setting. Since 2020, she has been invited to host a bi-weekly column on psychology at Hong Kong’s top-tier financial journal Hong Kong Economic Times’ iMoney.
